Description

This is the shot from Dead Horse Festival that I was covering. The band playing is "Bodies in the Gears (of the Apparatus)". The guy in the middle have such a renaissance(or maybe earlier) look, that I couldnt help, but show it here.

Really good job. I thought when I saw it the guy in the middle was a man being attacked by those around him. He look's so intense and the drum arm's are just right.

Why 4 and no comment? And how come neither one of you guys who commented left any score, especially if you like it? Man, I hate the way it works here. How can you give somebody a bad score and not explain why? I mean I know if you leave just a good score, it's not necessary to comment, becuase it's obvious.

Well, nice equipment +2 for that. But I have seen quite many Yet Another Man-Singing-Band-Playing picture... this has nothing new. It's from a rather typical view (behind the drummer is typical, straight over the vocalist is not) I would picture myself taking same kind of picture. If you want to use this kind of picture, I would suggest that you enhance it with PS. That way the picture would have more to say and better yet, it would be unique. I haven't seen a single yet another edited band picture.

That photo is edited pretty heavily to create a cold look. I edit all of the photos. Not a single one is left out. Shot from behind the drummer to show the content. How skilled drummer is (foreground), action in the midground and big crowd in the background. I'm sick of photos with single members of band, becuase those are keep repeating. I want to show energy and not them relaxing or isolated. That is quite edited photo. I cant beleive how rediculous your judgement is. Can't you even tell by the contrast, highlights and color?

Your judgement is too harsh, check out my other work

and then talk to me band photography.

I think it's great.
It's not easy to do a pic like this, I suppose it was some hardcore/punk fest with no stage and no special lights in the scene, so it's an enviroment not friendly for a photo. This one catches the raw atmosphere (I love the colours).
I like shots of crowd on the concerts- its great to look at them after the gig and see all those peoples faces (grimaces) and poses. The guy in the middle is great :)

4 is not necessarily bad vote if it comes from person who can vote up to five.. and I don't wonder why you don't get much comments with attitude like this:

Comments here are not very happy ... :)
Well, it's because of the cold look of this photography.

I wanted to give +3 or +4 to this picture. But, whatever, in fact it looks very well done. I hate this photography, but for the atmosphere and the feeling, i'll give +7. Professional shot.

I only hope that we won't have to read more heavy comments like the ones before.

Tilt.

nice to see you exploring more and more.......what with your tree picture and this one you are in danger of being an experimenter(which is awesome)......very true about calling it david by michelangelo.............although it reminds me more of carravagios paintings..especially the ones with his self potraits.

about the heavy comments: all i want to say to you gene, is that not all people are used to voting and mistakes might happen......and not all people take art as seriously as probably you and i and a few others do.

I know, I got too serious here, just some people. They're too basic. Dont understand, cant read.I'll take it easy. Thanx for good comments guys.

ps: darkxsnih!, you absolutely right on spot! Caravagio it is.

I'm not too crazy about the shot overall, but extremely contrary to ColdSwitch's comment, It is EXREMELY well done with regards to editing in PS, I mean the colors and contrast and saturation are PHENOMENAL... and for that I give it 7/8

i like it because this:

the people in the background are cold and severe. no expressions or anything.

the band has a wild, tormented state... they are really moving.

and in the middle of the two, there's this guy who's totally calm and getting something out of it --- feeling it.

everyone else is performing or viewing... this guy is making it his own.

maybe that makes sense.

I like that the skin tone of the centerpiece is different than the others. His body positioning and expression are well caught. In the midst of what appears to be musical chaos he has found serenity.

This is captured, and cropped, in the best photo-journalistic styling. If you haven't tried to sell this one I would suggest giving it a go. It reminds me of the type of photo the British are so fond of publishing. I thing you could have a classic here. Good luck with it.

Superb shot! I can understand why some people don't like it though - there will always be more people who prefer close-ups of pretty flowers or sunsets than pictures that make you stop and think. Keep up the good work and don't let them get to you...
